Baylor Wins Boys and Girls Team Titles In the Same Year

Baylor’s Beth Felts Wins Individual Title;
As She Leads Baylor To A State Record Seventh Consecutive Team Title
MURFREESBORO- - -Baylor’s Beth Felts shot a 74 (37-37) on the final day of competition at Old Fort Golf Course to win the Division II individual golf state championship. Felts trailed teammate Catherine Hicks by one stroke entering the final day of competition. Felts two-day total of 149 was two strokes better than teammate Hicks, who shot a 77 (39-38) on the final day. Felts and Hicks combined to give Baylor a state record seventh consecutive state championship with a team score of 299, the fifth lowest in state history. They tied the mark for most overall team titles held by GPS with seven as well. Rachel Stuart of Baylor shot a 76 (37-39) to finished tied for third with Brentwood Academy’s Liz Austin. Austin finished the final day of competition with a 74 (37-37). Both finished with a two-day total of 153. Liz Austin and her sister Kate combined for a two-day total of 316 to give Brentwood Academy their second ever runner-up finish. Taylor Bunnell of St. Benedict shot a 82 (40-42) to finish in fifth place with a two-day total of 158.

Baylor Wins Third Consecutive Team Title – Ninth Overall
MURFREESBORO- - -Baylor’s Luke List, a third place finisher at last year’s state tournament, birdied seven holes to shoot a 68 (32-36) on the final day of competition at Old Fort Golf Course to win the state championship by four strokes over Ryan Mayberry of Evangelical Christian School.
Bryan Hartley and Josh Nelms of Baylor each shot a two-under par 70 (33-37) on the final day to finish with two-day total of 145 and tied for third place, just four strokes behind teammate List. Baylor’s third consecutive title is second only to their own streak of four titles from 1993-96. Baylor’s final day team score of 281 was the second lowest 18-hole team score in state history. The previous record, which was set in 1995 at Henry Horton State Park, is also held by Baylor. They also recorded the second lowest 36-hole team score in history with a total of 579.
Ryan Mayberry’s second place finish combined with Reed Davis (154), Bradley Clark (155), and Ben Boyd (158) to give ECS a runner-up finish.
Christian Brothers High School, led by fifth place finisher Drew Maliniak (146), finished just one stroke behind ECS for a third place finish.
Chris Rogers of Battle Ground Academy, who led with a 71 after day one, shot a 75 to finish tied for fifth with Maliniak.
