Creek Wood's Elizabeth Dotson Wins Second Championship, Sets Record;
Davidson Academy Wins Their Seventh State Championship

MURFREESBORO - - - Trailing by one stroke heading into the final day of competition, Elizabeth Dotson shot a 68 (33-35) to capture her second state championship in three years. She finished with a two-day total of 139, the lowest ever in state tournament history, to win the 2002 Class A-AA State Golf Championship. Her final day score of 68 is tied for the second lowest 18-hole individual score in history. Dotson, a junior, edged out Seymour's Jennifer Davis, last year's champion, by two strokes for the title. Davis' two-day total of 141 is tied for the fourth best 36-hole individual score. Dotson won her first championship in 2000 as a freshman. She shot a 149 that year to edge out Davis by two strokes.

Jamey Dillard shot a 73 on both days and Lauren Oeser had a two-day total of 153 (78-75) to combine for a 296 to give Davidson Academy their seventh state golf championship. They are tied with Girls Preparatory School and Baylor School for the most titles ever. Davidson Academy had won six consecutive titles from 1995-2000. Their team score of 296 is tied for the third best team score. The 1997 state championship team from Davidson Academy is the other team to shoot a 296. Dillard finished in third in individual competition. Her two-day score is tied for the tenth best score at the state tournament.

Christian Academy of Knoxville's Anna-Claire Daniels finished tied for fourth place with Rachel Ingram of University School of Johnson City. Both finished eight strokes behind Dotson with a 147. Daniels combined with teammate Mary A. Orr to give Christian Academy of Knoxville a runner-up finish. CAK won the state championship last year.

University School of Jackson Wins A-AA Golf Championship;
Bradley Pate of University School of Jackson Captures Individual Title

MURFREESBORO - - -University School of Jackson won the 2002 Class A-AA Golf Championship and were led by Bradley Pate, who shot a 138 (72-66) to win the individual title. Pate, a senior, was two strokes behind Smith County's Greyson Painter, heading into the final day of competition. Pate's score of 66 is tied for the fourth best 18-hole individual score at the state tournament. His two-day score of 138 is also tied for the fourth best 36-hole individual score.

Pate combined with teammates Robert Lents 144 (71-73), Parks Williamson who shot a 149 (73-76), Luke Ferguson who shot a 159 (77-82), and James Morgan who shot a 165 (82-83) to give USJ two-day team score of 590, which is tied for the third best 36-hole team score in state tournament history.

Christian Academy of Knoxville's Matthew Mincer and Smith County's Brent Long finished tied for runner-up with a score of 141. Mincer, a senior, also finished tied for runner-up last year.

Jonathan Mount of Kingston shot a 143 (72-71) to finish in fourth place. Greyson Painter of Smith County, University School of Jackson's Robert Lents, and Wes Williams of Christ Presbyterian Academy each finished with a 144 and tied for fifth. Williams score of 144 helped lead CPA to a team runner-up finish.
