Sullivan throws no-hitter in BGA victory
TULLAHOMA, Tenn. Tyler Sullivan threw the third no-hitter in state tournament history to lead Battle Ground Academy to a 10-0 victory over Chattanooga McCallie in the first TSSAA Division II State Baseball Tournament on Wednesday.
Sullivan helped his own cause with a home run over the centerfield fence in the fourth inning. Sullivan finished the game with six strikeouts and walked just two McCallie batters.
The Wildcats (21-9) scored three runs in the second inning powered by a two-out, two-run double by Hunter Gilbert, who finished the game with two hits.
McCallie (19-7) had only one threat in the game when Sean Robinson reached on an error and Chris Paryse drew a two-out walk. Sullivan came back to strike out the last batter to finish the game in five innings due to the 10-run rule.
BGA will play the winner of Wednesdays Baylor School-Cordova Evangelical Christian game on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Grider Stadium. McCallie will play the loser at Grider on Thursday at 10 a.m.

Evangelical Christian holds off Baylor
TULLAHOMA, Tenn. Cordova Evangelical Christian School held off a seventh-inning rally and defeated The Baylor School of Chattanooga 5-4 in the first round of the TSSAA Division II Baseball Tournament on Wednesday.
Baylor had the bases loaded with one out in the seventh and Jason White worked out of trouble allowing only a sacrifice fly and picked up the complete-game victory.
Ryan Hayes picked up a couple of hits for ECS (23-5) and drove in two runs.
Brian Geppi and Garth Brown each drove in two runs for Baylor (17-14).
ECS will play Battle Ground Academy on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Grider Stadium. BGA shut out McCallie 10-0 on Tyler Sullivans no-hitter.
Baylor plays McCallie at 10 a.m. in a losers bracket game on Thursday at Motlow State.

McCallie outslugs Baylor in Division II baseball
TULLAHOMA, Tenn. Trevor Sneed capped a McCallie rally with the game-winning hit in the bottom of the seventh as the Blue Tornado downed Baylor 13-12 to advance in the TSSAA Division II Baseball Tournament on Thursday.
McCallie (20-7) trailed 12-9 in the final inning before stringing five straight hits to score four runs. Greg Brazier had a two-run double to tie the game at 12-12 and Sneed had the game-winning hit down the leftfield line.
Baylor had a rally of its own with nine runs in the fourth to erase an early 7-0 deficit. Nerren Pratt had a three-run homer in the inning and drove in four runs in the game on two hits. Sneed also picked up the victory for McCallie with a scoreless seventh inning.
Ricky Honeycutt, son of former major league pitcher Rick Honeycutt, suffered the loss in relief for Baylor (17-15). With the win over its Chattanooga cross-city rival, McCallie will play the loser of Thursday night's Battle Ground Academy-Evangelical Christian game at 10 a.m. on Friday at Grider Stadium.

ECS routs BGA in Division II tournament
TULLAHOMA, Tenn. Evangelical Christian scored 10 runs in the first inning and coasted to a 14-1 victory over Battle Ground Academy on Thursday to advance to the championship game of the TSSAA Division II Baseball Tournament.
ECS (24-5) sent 14 batters to the plate in the first inning. Grant Caldwell drove in four of his six runs in the inning on a triple and single.
Caldwell tied the state tournament record with four hits, attained three times previously, and his six RBI set a new record. The previous RBI record was five set by Brentwood Academys Bobby Toleson in 1991.
BGA avoided a shutout when Tyler Sullivan scored on a fielders error in the fifth inning.
Battle Ground Academy (21-10) will play McCallie (20-7) on Friday at 10 a.m. at Grider Stadium for a berth in the championship game on Friday at 5 p.m. at the Gamble Sports Complex in Winchester, Tenn.

BGA routs McCallie 10-1
TULLAHOMA, Tenn. Tyler Sullivan hit his second home run of the tournament and Battle Ground Academy blew open a close game late to defeat Chattanooga McCallie 10-1 in the TSSAA Division II Baseball Tournament.
Sullivan, who pitched a no-hitter in BGA's 10-0 win over McCallie in the opening game of the tournament, homered with two on base to cap a six-run sixth inning. Sullivan also homered in the first McCallie game. Sullivan had two hits in the game.
The victory sets up a rematch between BGA (22-10) and Evangelical Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at Gamble Sports Complex in Winchester. McCallie scored its only run in the first inning when Greg Brazier scored on a passed ball.
Jason Belcher, who did not finish the first inning on Thursday in the Wildcats 14-1 loss against Evangelical Christian, pitched a two-hitter, striking out six and walking one. McCallie ends its season with a 20-8 record.

Evangelical Christian wins third state championship
WINCHESTER, Tenn. Evangelical Christian won the first TSSAA Division II Baseball state championship after outslugging Battle Ground Academy 13-8 on Friday.
ECS (25-5) jumped to a 3-1 lead in the first inning on a controversial home run by Grant Caldwell. Caldwell's shot was curving down the left field line and was called fair by umpires.
Caldwell, named the tournament's most valuable player, had three hits and three RBI to improve his tournament numbers to 8-for-12 with nine runs driven in.
The state championship is the third in school history for Evangelical Christian. The Eagles earlier won titles in 1989 and 1996, both in Class AA.
BGA rallied to tie the game at 3-3 in the third inning before ECS tallied three runs in the bottom half to take the lead for good.
The Eagles secured the win with three runs in the fourth and four in the fifth.
BGA's Matt King hit a grand slam in the sixth to cut the ECS lead to five, 13-8.
Battle Ground Academy ended its season with a 22-11 record.
