Highlights of Board of Control Meeting

November 11, 1999

  1. Roll Call

  2. Approval of Minutes of Last Meeting

  3. Voted to allow state office to make draw for the State Wrestling Tournament.

  4. Discussed current format of A. F. Bridges awards. It was the Board’s recommendation to have the state office send out a press release on the schools and individuals given awards.

    Discussed new awards and legislative items that were discussed and voted on at this year’s Regional Meetings.

  5. Board discussed with the staff the state tournament events in golf, volleyball, girls’ soccer, cross country, and cheerleading.

    Voted to eliminate complimentary practice round the day before the state golf tournaments, and allow the state office to negotiate the best price possible. This is a result of being charged by courses for each day, including the practice rounds.

    Voted to rotate the classifications for the golf tournaments, so that in a thee-year period each classification will have played at a different site each year.

    Voted to add golf rules meetings to be held in the spring and to have PGA officials present at both region and state golf tournaments.

  6. Accepted the membership request of Elliston Baptist Academy.

  7. Reviewed the Fall Administrators’ Meetings.

  8. Voted to renew the three-year contract of the executive director.

  9. Denied appeal of schools in District 1 A-AA participating in golf. That a letter be sent to schools in District 1 A-AA advising them that they will be reinstated if they agree to the following: follow the plan they submitted to the state office; have an administrator in charge of the tournament; coaches must be supervising or scoring; and they must also attend the golf rules meeting in the spring.
