- Minimum Standards to Host District Volleyball Tournaments
The following proposal was on the agenda for the March 18, 2004 Board meeting, but was tabled until the June meeting. The Board needs to take action on this proposal at this meeting.
Catherine Neely of East Ridge High School and Marsha Goodwin of Walker Valley High School have submitted the following request for minimum standards for hosting District Volleyball Tournaments:
- If there are five (5) or more teams, there shall be two (2) or more courts available on the same site. This enables the tournament director to run two courts side by side or in the same building. This enables you to run the tournament in shorter number of days.
- If there are 10 or more teams in a district, there shall be two (2), preferably three (3) courts available at the same site. The tournament can be run in two days if this is available. Otherwise, the tournament would take 3-4 days to run. This is also necessary because a team cannot play more than two matches a day.
- Minimum seating available: there should be a minimum seating available for 500. Bleachers pulled in to make two courts sometimes limits seating.
- State Volleyball Tournament Format Change
The State Volleyball Tournament was composed of pool play up until two years ago. The arrival of 3-out-of-5 rally scoring made it necessary to change the format. After the regular season games began, the state office realized that we had to add two sites (Blackman High School and Siegel High School) to go along with MTSU to accommodate tournament play.
