2003 Basketball Tournament Media Credentials

ATTENTION ALL MEDIA

This requires your immediate attention.

If you are needing credentials for the state basketball tournaments, please fax in your request on company letterhead or use the credential request form (HTML, Word, PDF). Fax to the attention of Matthew Gillespie at: (615) 889-0544. If you want your passes mailed to you, regardless if they are passes for the boys or girls tournament, the request must be received in our office no later than 12:00 p.m. CST on Friday, March 7. Please include an address to mail these passes to. The deadline for requests for the Girls State Tournament is on Tuesday, March 11 at 12:00 p.m CST. If the requests are not received by then, they will not be filled. We will be leaving the office for the state tournament.

The deadline for requests for the Boys State Tournament is on Monday, March 17 at 12:00 p.m. CST

If you are unsure if the team you are covering will qualify for the state tournament, please go ahead and fax the request in.

LIMIT NUMBER FOR PASSES

Due to the large amount of media outlets that cover the state tournament we are having to limit the number of credentials issued to each outlet. Credentials for championship events are to be issued on a space-available basis and are to be issued only to daily newspaper personnel who are covering the event, television personnel who are directly involved in covering events for newscast productions, radio stations who are doing play-by-play broadcasts and qualify under the TSSAA radio and television guidelines, and non-daily newspapers whose primary circulation area includes schools participating in championship events. Credentials are limited to two per television station, daily newspapers, and radio stations carrying live play-by-play broadcasts. Requests for credentials beyond the categories listed above and requests beyond the specified number allowed per outlet must be accompanied by a letter explaining the necessity for those additional credentials.

It is not necessary for media outlets who cover a wide area involving many TSSAA member schools and who routinely cover TSSAA championship events to specify which schools they plan to cover in championship events; however, newspapers and radio stations with limited scope must specify which schools they plan to cover in championship events.

The conducting of interviews anywhere other than the media room at the State Basketball Tournament is grounds for ejection from the facility and indefinite denial of credential requests for future TSSAA events.

ATTENTION RADIO STATIONS

A station may broadcast a game provided it has broadcast 51% of the games of the school playing or of the schools in that county during the current season.

Any station may pick up a feed from the TSSAA via the Tennessee Sports Radio Network. Contact either Bill Haney (731-686-1256) or Dan Hughes (1-800-301-9930).

Stations must be aware that if there is a game following the one you are broadcasting you may be limited to just 10 minutes of post game time. We will try to make adjustments to this if possible.
