The TSSAA Division I football playoffs were radically changed for this classification period. This application was written to help persons understand the new format. By following the steps below one can begin to get a feel for how teams will be selected and how they will be grouped at playoff time.

Steps to select teams for playoffs and put into quadrants:

  1. Go to the district standings page and select the class you are interested in. Select the teams you think will make the playoffs as automatic qualifiers. (24 for 1A and 2A, 32 for 3A, 4A, 5A, and 6A). Look at the header for each district to help in determining how many automatic qualifiers will come from each district.

  2. Count the teams you have selected for your class and then determine how many wildcards will be in that class. For example, if you were looking at class 3A and you have determined that there will be 26 automatic qualifiers from that class, then you will need to select six (6) wildcards teams to complete that 32 team bracket.

  3. Go to the Wildcard link and look at the schools listed. They are listed by the 16 step wildcard selection criteria. Mark off the teams that you selected as automatic qualifiers and the top six teams left in the list will be the wildcard qualifiers. (Important note: If there a tie at any level of the tie-break system, head-to-head is always the criteria).

  4. Now that you have your 32 class 3A teams you can look at the 3A map to get a feel for the quadrants the teams are in. Better yet, you can actually get a copy of the 3A map and freehand draw what you think will be the geographic quadrants will be. See instructions unter the "Build Quadrants" tab.
