Girls' Volleyball
Guidelines for District & Regional Girls' Volleyball Tournaments

  1. Please refer to the "Girls' Volleyball Regulations" in your TSSAA Official Handbook.

  2. Directors should set time and place for meeting. Notify all coaches in the district of the time and place of the district meeting. For regional meetings, regional directors should notify all district directors of the time and place of the regional meeting and ask them to inform district winners and runner-up teams.

  3. Items to be covered in the meeting:
  1. In district meetings, make district tournament draw. In all regional tournaments the odd numbered district winner shall play the even numbered district runner-up, and the even numbered district winner shall play the odd numbered district runner-up.

  2. Set schedule and times for all matches.

  3. In district tournaments, the coaches may select officials by a vote of all coaches in the tournament or may request the local association to assign the officials. (A referee and an umpire shall be used in each tournament match). The host school shall furnish line judges. In regional tournaments, the game officials shall be assigned by the state office.

  4. Select a scorer.

  5. Set fees to be paid to scorer and director. Game officials shall be paid $50 per district match and $55 per region match, and if they live outside the county where the match is being held, they should receive 15¢ per mile rould trip.

  6. Set price of admission.

  7. Make any other necessary financial arrangements.

  8. Agree on number of passes to be issued to participating teams. Determine what passes, if any, are to be honored at the gate.

  9. Inform each team that they are required to furnish a line judge. (Tournament director shall assign two (2) adult line judges to each match. No line judge may work in the match in which their school is participating.) It is recommended that TSSAA registered volleyball officials be used as line judges.

  10. A team may dress 14 players for regional tournaments. It is suggested that this same policy be adopted for district tournaments. (A team may not have additional players dressed in uniforms and have them wear T-shirts or warm-ups over the uniform.)

  11. Teams should be informed that if gate receipts do not equal expenses that participating teams will be billed equal shares for the cost of the tournament.

  12. Matches should follow as closely as possible to the tournament time schedule.

  13. In post season tournament play the following warm-up schedule shall be followed:

15 Minute Pre-Match Warm-Up

3 minutes - General Passing (Both Teams on their side)
6 minutes - Serving Teams Court
6 minutes - Receiving Teams Court
THERE WILL BE NO SHARED SERVING.

  1. Cover any other items of district and regional tournament business.
  1. Immediately following the district meeting, the tournament director shall contact officials or the local assigning officer. (The assigning officer for each area shall determine the working schedule for officials, referee, and umpire for each match.)

  2. District and Region Awards can be obtained from your District/Regional Coordinator. Please check the plaques as soon as you receive them. If you are missing awards or they are damaged, contact Lauren Lynch of our office.

  3. Supply an approved or official volleyball for district tournaments.

  4. A Molten volleyball will be used at the state tournament.

  5. Secure necessary tournament workers, etc.

  6. If concessions are sold, receipts go to the host school or those designated by the tournament director.

  7. Financial reports (Division I District, Division I Region, Division II Region) must be sent to the state office. Make report duplicate, and keep one (1) copy for your files.

    All checks for district, regional, and sectional tournaments and playoffs must be distributed within 10 business days of the completion of the tournament or game. Failure to do so will result in a $100.00 late fee to be paid to TSSAA and is to be used in the A.F. Bridges sportsmanship program to go to schools or students receiving awards. Failure to distribute funds within 20 business days will result in an additional $200 late fee (total $300.00). Failure to distribute funds within 40 business days will result in an additional $200.00 late fee (total $500.00). The school may not host any tournament or playoff until the principal or athletic director appears before the Board of Control to explain their reasons for not distributing the checks within the required time frame. The Board would then determine whether the school can host tournaments or playoffs in the future.

  8. Tournament directors should inform the local press of tournament plans, times, bracket, etc. This will help in giving your teams and tournament some publicity, and may help your attendance.
